Professional smart lock installation for Greater Boston & South Shore homes. Electronic deadbolts, keypad locks, and smartphone-controlled entry systems. No more fumbling for keys.

What Are Smart Locks?

Smart locks replace traditional keyed deadbolts with electronic entry systems. Instead of metal keys, you unlock your door using PIN codes, smartphones, key fobs, or fingerprint scanners. No more hiding keys under the mat, making copies for house sitters, or getting locked out when you forget your keys.

For homeowners throughout Greater Boston and the South Shore, smart locks provide convenience and security. Grant temporary access codes to contractors, dog walkers, or Airbnb guests—then delete the codes when you're done. Check your phone to see if you remembered to lock the door. Get alerts when your kids arrive home from school. All without managing physical keys.

We install, program, and service all major smart lock brands including August, Schlage Encode, Yale Assure, Kwikset SmartCode, and Lockly. Whether you're upgrading a single front door or outfitting your entire home, we'll recommend the right smart lock for your needs and existing door hardware.

FAQs

Common Smart Lock Questions

  • What if the batteries die?

Most smart locks alert you weeks before batteries die. If they do die completely, most locks include emergency power contacts—hold a 9V battery to the contacts and the lock powers on temporarily so you can unlock and replace batteries. Many models also include traditional key override.

  • Can smart locks be hacked?

Modern smart locks use encrypted communication (same security as online banking). Bluetooth models are extremely secure since they only work within a few feet. WiFi models are as secure as your home network. Physical locks can be picked or bumped—smart locks with anti-pick cylinders are often MORE secure than traditional locks.

  • Do I need WiFi for a smart lock?

No. Keypad models work without WiFi or smartphone. Bluetooth smart locks work with your phone nearby but don't need WiFi. Only WiFi-enabled models (for remote control) require internet connection.

  • Will a smart lock work on my door?

Most smart locks fit standard doors with standard deadbolt holes. We verify compatibility before recommending a model. Unusual door thicknesses, backsets, or existing hardware may require specific models.

  • Can I still use a regular key?

Most smart locks include key override for emergencies. Some models (like August) install over your existing deadbolt so you can use your original key. Pure keyless models don't have keyholes.

  • How long do batteries last?

Typically 6-12 months depending on usage. Low-battery warnings give you weeks of advance notice.

  • Can I install a smart lock myself?

If you're handy, yes—most install like regular deadbolts. However, professional installation ensures proper alignment, calibration, and programming. We also help you set up all features and integrations.

Smart Lock Features

What Smart Locks Can Do

Auto-Lock

Door automatically locks after you enter. Never worry about forgetting to lock up. Customizable delay (lock immediately or wait 30 seconds).

Activity Logs

See who entered and when. Check if kids got home from school. Verify when contractors accessed your home. Logs stored in app.

Temporary Access Codes

Create codes that work only during specific times. Give your dog walker a code that works Monday-Friday 1-2 PM. Code automatically expires after the period ends.

Remote Control (WiFi models)

Unlock the door for a delivery person from your office. Check if you locked the door from vacation. Grant emergency access to family from anywhere.

Smart Home Integration

Connect with Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit, Ring, Nest, SmartThings. "Alexa, lock the front door." Trigger lights or cameras when door unlocks.

Low Battery Alerts

Get notifications when batteries are running low (usually weeks in advance). Most locks include emergency power contacts—hold a 9V battery to contacts if batteries die completely.

Why Upgrade to Smart Locks?

Traditional Deadbolts:

• Require physical keys (can be lost, copied, forgotten)

• No access logs (don't know who entered when)

• Can't grant temporary access (must give out physical keys)

• No remote control (can't lock/unlock from away)

• No integration with smart home

Smart Locks:

• No keys needed (codes, phone, or fingerprint)

• Complete activity logs (see who entered when)

• Temporary access codes (auto-expiring guest access)

• Remote control available (WiFi models)

• Integration with Alexa, Google Home, etc.

Smart locks don't eliminate traditional keys entirely—most include key override for emergencies. But daily use is keyless, which means more convenience and better control over home access.
